Do you have a quick mood boosting reset routine ready for when you feel overwhelmed or just not yourself? Earlier I needed one! Sometimes the effort to do what we need to do to feel better seems like too much. Don’t stay stuck in those bad feelings. It’s so simple to put this routine in place to keep a few negative thoughts from spiraling! Make it a go to resource, a habit, so it automatically becomes what you do to turn your day around! Here we go!
Five Step Quick Reset Routine!
First, put on some of your favorite music!
I have a playlist on spotify called music therapy. I save it for when I feel like I felt 5 minutes ago, frustrated and wanting to crawl out and see some sun, the mall, a waterfall…something. Do you believe that you are resilient, creative and stable, if so have you felt tested in that lately? So back to my music therapy playlist. It does include what I like to call angry music lol. (Don’t worry, I looked up angry music and it turns out this is pretty mild:)
Songs that just have so much emotion behind them that you actually feel better. So much research proves that music has a great effect on our emotions. For some reason, it just is a great reset. I’m talking songs like Bring me Back to Life from Evanescence, Elastic Heart from Sia, Sweet but Psycho from Ava Max, Shake It Out, from Florence + the Machine etc. You probably have your own versions, feel free to borrow mine if not!
Pick a Variety of Songs for Your Reset Routine!
A few of those and then it leads to songs like This is How We Do It from Montell Jordan, Me and Mrs. Jones from Michael Bublé , Don’t Stop The Music from Rihanna and similar happier songs. I know right, no similarities in that song list… You know what it is? It’s the sense of belonging that each of these brings. I learned some of the songs from my kids of course! They inspire a can do it attitude! That always important feeling of “I’m not alone in this.”
Billy Idol, Blondie, U2 etc. I will say that it was 80’s Rock for me, so let’s go for a ride in that cute first car of yours. How about some Round and Round from Ratt spilling out of the open sun roof? The fact that I thought that was so cool is just enough to get you crying laughing right now so hopefully you feel better already!
So, what belongs on your playlist? What I love about spotify is that you can actually type in any feeling you are trying to achieve or any genre that you want. They will find the music for you! A super easy way to set up a reset routine!
Put it on Paper!
Now that you are feeling a little better let’s move on…
I can only guess, but sometimes when you feel a real lack of motivation, it is because something needs to be put on paper! Things can really weigh on our minds until we write them down. So many options! Get out the fun markers! Use a planner, make a list on your phone, whatever it is to take it off your mind and place it somewhere you will be able access it. I have gone back to paper lists for the store for the time being…
Right now I am committing to become better at planning on paper. I think that because I have always been good at remembering to do’s and tasks, I end up fighting the idea of planning. If it’s not on paper on written down somewhere get it done. It will clear your mind so that you can be in the moment.
Writing it down clears your mind to be in the moment!
So I am setting up a planner as we speak. Today, I was at Target and I picked up a dry erase board and some markers. Once I get some planning done on those I will transfer it to my planner!

Get a Healthy Boost!
Set an appointment to work out!
Exercise is always one of the best parts of a reset routine. Walking counts and getting outside is a bonus! The more you stretch, the better! A great time to use workout bands or a foam roller. Take a few minutes and save some workouts on Pinterest to use later or head to my at home workout board and try out one of my favorite routines.
Be Sure to Get a Healthy Lunch!
I saw a good tip today From Taylor Loren from Later Media. She was talking about scheduling in a lunch break if you are working from home. If you are home alone, it’s super easy to skip lunch. On my days off, so many times I would get through till 3 and realize I hadn’t even thought to eat.
It’s nice to be plowing through your day making things happen, but have a quick lunch too, make it part of your reset routine ! Especially important when your resources are a little low.
Self Care for a Boost of Confidence!
So many possibilities! Try a quick neutral pink for a manicure or even a pedicure!! It will be much easier for you to apply yourself & it also dries faster! I picked up a bottle of ballet slippers from Essie today, because doing my own toes always gives me a lift! (That is after it is done, lol, while I’m doing it I’m thinking why is this hard for me? I do this for a living! It’s much harder to do my own than it is to do my clients’) It’s a little more neutral than my favorite chalky pink OPI’s Getting Naddy on My Honeymoon. Little indulgences are always a quick pick me up! I know, nail polish isn’t exactly an indulgence…It can seem like one when you already have a bucket full of them.
Another tip! Get out any skin care devices you have purchased and put them into a rotation for use! So many of us have a collection of creams that we keep saying we are going to use up! This is the perfect time to take them out and treat yourself. Especially have been in your drawer for a while.
Reach Out
One sure way to feel a little better is by offering some kind words to a friend! Make this step easy by keeping a pack of thank you notes handy. This way you can quickly send a thank you or a cheerful note to lift up someone else’s day. Sometimes doing that helps us as much as it helps the other person!
I hope this quick routine helps get you back on track. A better mindset is just a few steps away and your day will turn out so much better. Sometimes, I get a little stuck and have to talk myself into starting the routine to shift how I’m feeling. We all get to that point once in a while, even as if we are very positive people!
