Does it seem like it takes forever to be ready for bed? Is your night time routine super long? Are there things you want to add to your bedtime ritual? Here’s a simple plan to wake up looking and feeling better in the morning!
Have a set time to go to bed
Make sleep a priority by having an established night time routine. If you figure out the best time to go to bed, try to stick to that time. My own best time is between 10:30 and 11:00, but it isn’t always possible to keep to that schedule! The Sleep Foundation suggests going to bed and waking up at the same time each day. Of course, this won’t be exact every night, but it’s a good place to start. Do you ever find that you are tired during the day when your sleep schedule is off? It’s a good way to know that it’s time for a reset.
Keep your night time routine the same
If you like to shower at night, do that and use it as a time to wind down. Get great pajamas, that aren’t too hot or too cold and keep them ready to use. I like to have a few sets of what I know works for me. I don’t know if it’s true, but I have heard in the past that if your feet are warm, you will sleep better! Putting socks on after foot cream is the way to go to wake up to softer feet. You will be happy you did it, especially at your next yoga class!
Get clothing ready for the next day, or if you really want to prepare, put your outfits together for the week. To save time in the morning check out my post about shampooing less often. It also helps because you can style your hair once and have it last for the next 1 or 2 days. Especially if you use a satin pillowcase. (Also more gentle on the skin) I will be right back, I have to get mine from the dryer!
Keep your evening routine products together
If you don’t have plans to go anywhere, start by washing your face earlier in the evening. Do your skincare and then that will be all set for the night. This may not happen too often so have a plan for the rest of the time.
How about separating everything you use at night? Make a small nook area for your favorite night time pampering items. For me, my ideal would be serum, eye cream and face cream. (yes! In that order) Hand and foot cream are always goals for me and if they were kept handy it would happen more often. Take your foot cream in the bathroom and use it there so you can put socks on(kick them off later if you want!) and then wash your hands. Hand cream can be last, right before you hit the sheets!
Use the best essential oils to help you sleep
A diffuser will keep essential oils in the air, they are very popular and easy to find. You can even get a battery operated unit for a small space. Great oils for relaxation are lavender, bergamot, neroli, lemon, ylang ylang and orange. Try a combination to fit best with your night time routine and aim for organic essential oils from a reputable source.
Get a comforter and pillows that you love
You may already have a satin pillowcase, gentle on the skin and helps to minimize frizzy hair. Make sure you have a comforter that you love too. It just makes going to sleep better! Decide on your favorite style and fabric and you will be happier with it for much longer.
Make stretching part of your night time routine
Use a foam roller or do some gentle stretching. Especially if you sit at a desk during the day! Follow my At Home Workouts Board on Pinterest for easy stretches!
Think happy thoughts
Use a gratitude journal and make a list of goals for the upcoming week. This will also help clear your mind to sleep better:)
Sleep well!
Now that you are all set with your skincare and your plans for what to wear the next day, you can rest easy. Put your mind at ease with your list and happy thoughts and prayers. Take some deep breaths and enjoy your essential oil. See you in the morning!
